On Monday, June 23 at 6 p.m. CT, the Clinton Presidential Library and the Clinton Foundation will welcome Catherine Adams, Ph.D. for a conversation about her book, "Love of Freedom: Black Women in Colonial and Revolutionary New England," moderated by Quantia "Key" M. Fletcher, Executive Director of the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center. Adams and Fletcher will discuss "Love of Freedom," the first study of black women in colonial and Revolutionary New England. The work explores the lives of hitherto unknown black women in New England and examines how patriarchy and race conjoined to impact the lives of black women in the north. Adams will share how she wove together primary sources to document these lesser-known stories. "Love of Freedom" is one of two public programs being held in conjunction with the Arkansas Civic Education Institute, an annual week-long professional development opportunity for 4th-12th grade teachers. These programs are the first in the Clinton Presidential Center Commemorates America 250 series, dedicated to exploring the history of the United States in the year leading up to the semiquincentennial of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 2026. "Love of Freedom" is presented in partnership with the Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site. ASL interpretation is available during our events.
