Finding Aids

Finding aids describe archival collections to help users navigate their contents and identify material relevant to their research. Finding aids provide a summary of a collection, the system of arrangement of the responsive material, a container list of responsive files, and a link to the related digitized records (if available).

Researchers may use the "Search Box" below to search by keyword or collection number (ex. 2016-0738-F). Researchers may narrow their search results by filtering by finding aid type, record type, or tag. Researchers may also select for "Digitized Content" to view only collections that have been digitized.

Collection Description Tags

A Tag is a descriptive term attached to a finding aid to establish relationships between collection descriptions. Multiple tags can be used to describe collections.


Tag	Use For
AIDS (Disease)	Finding aid descriptions of collections having to do with the Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) and/or the treatment of HIV infections. Finding aids also describe policy concerning individuals, groups, or countries seeking treatment or subsidies for AIDs and HIV.
Ambassadors	Finding aid descriptions of collections having to do with individuals who served the United States as an Ambassador to another country,
Armed Forces	Finding aid descriptions of collections having to do with the Military, or Armed Services. This means any Finding aid descriptions of collections having to do with the Wars in Kosovo and Bosnia. (Ex: Don't Ask, Don't Tell, sending troops to Haiti in 1994, etc.)
Associations, institutions, etc.	Finding aid descriptions of collections having to do with Networks (Associations, institutions, etc.), Organizations, Voluntary associations, or Voluntary organizations.
Award presentations	Finding aid descriptions of collections having to do with Award ceremonies, Awards ceremonies, or Awards presentations. (Examples: Presidential Medal of Freedom, Kennedy Center Awards, Volunteer Service, National Service, Military Awards.)
Celebrities	Finding aid descriptions of collections having to do with: Famous people; Famous persons; Illustrious people; or Well-known people.
Civil rights	Finding aid descriptions of collections having to do with Basic rights; Civil liberties; Civil rights--Law and legislation; Civil rights--Legal status, laws, etc.; Constitutional rights; Human rights or Fundamental rights.
Crime	Finding aid descriptions of collections having to do with: City crime; Crime and criminals; Crime--Social aspects; Crimes; Delinquency; Felonies; Misdemeanors; Urban crime, or International Crime.
Dinners and dining	Finding aid descriptions of collections having to do with State Dinners, dinners and receptions held on behalf of other countries, the Prayer Breakfast, Fundraising dinners, or private dinners.
Donated Collection	Used only for systematically processed collections that were donated collections to the Clinton Presidential Library & Museum
Economic policy	Finding aid descriptions of collections having to do with domestic or U.S. Economic policy. Used for: Economic nationalism, Economic planning, Economic policy--Political aspects, National planning, State planning.
Education	Finding aid descriptions of collections having to do with Education.
Emigration and immigration	Finding aid descriptions of collections having to do with immigrants, illegal immigrants, illegal aliens, or immigration policies.
Environmental policy	Finding aid descriptions of collections having to do with Environment and state Environmental control; Environmental management--Government policy; Environmental policy--Law and legislation; Environmental policy--Political aspects; Environmental protection--Government policy; Environmental quality--Government policy; or State and environment.
Executive advisory bodies	Finding aid descriptions of collections having to do with Presidential Commissions, Presidential Advisory Boards, Commissions of the federal government, or Government advisory boards.
Executive clemency	Finding aid descriptions of collections having to do with the power to grant relief from criminal punishment, encompassing pardons (forgiveness of offense), commutations (reduced sentences), reprieves (postponement of sentence), and amnesty (broad forgiveness).
Executive orders	Finding aid descriptions of collections having to do with Executive orders.
First Lady	Finding aid descriptions of collections having to do with the initiatives or activities of First Lady, Hillary Rodham Clinton. Finding aid descriptions of collections concernining the staff of First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton or the Office of the First Lady.
Gay rights	Finding aid descriptions of collections having to do with Gay and lesbian rights; Gay men--Civil rights; Gay people--Civil rights; Lesbian rights; Lesbians--Civil rights; Rights of gay people; or Rights of lesbians. Finding aid descriptions of collections having to do with "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," Gay Marriage, DOMA, etc.
Government agencies	Finding aid descriptions of collections having to do with any Executive agencies, Government agencies, Regulatory agencies. This term can be used broadly to describe the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Presidential Cabinet Offices (Defense, Education, State), Voice of America (VOA), Radio Free Europe, etc.
Heads of State	Finding aid descriptions of collections having to do with foreign Heads of State, heads of government, or rulers (Example, Presidents, Prime Ministers, Kings, etc.)
Health care reform	Finding aid descriptions of collections having to do with Health reform; Health system reform; Healthcare reform; Medical care reform; Reform of health care delivery; or Reform of medical care delivery.
Holidays	Finding aid descriptions of collections having to do with Legal holidays or National holidays (St. Patricks Day, Christmas, Easter, MLK day, etc)
Housing policy	Finding aid descriptions of collections having to do with Housing policy and Government subsidies for housing. Also descriptions of collections having to do with homelessness or the un-housed.
International economic relations	Finding aid descriptions of collections having to do with international economic planning or policy
International relations	Finding aid descriptions of collections having to do with Foreign affairs, Foreign policy, Foreign relations, Global governance, Interdependence of nations, International affairs, Peaceful coexistence, or World order.
Judges--Selection and Appointment	Finding aid descriptions of collections having to do with selection or appointment of judges (supreme court or circuit)
Law	Finding aid descriptions of collections having to do with Legislative Acts; Legislative Enactments; or Law--Regions; Laws (Statutes).
Law enforcement	Finding aid descriptions of collections having to do with policing or the enforcement of laws. (Example: ATF, DEA, and FBI actions; like WACO, Branch Dividians, Elian Gonzalez, Ruby Ridge, etc.) Finding aid descriptions concerning the Department of Justice and the Attorney General.
Meetings	Finding aid descriptions of collections having to do with meetings at the White House, White House Conferences, or other conferences hosted by other associations.
Military bases	Finding aid descriptions of collections having to do with military bases, military forts, or military facilities.
Military operations	Finding aid descriptions of collections having to do with Military Operations, Peacekeeping Operations, or Rescue Operations.
Millennium Celebrations (2000)	Finding aid descriptions of collections having to do with Millennium celebrations (2000), 2000 A.D., celebrations, or Year 2000 celebrations. (This includes White House Millenium Events in 1999).
People with disabilities	Finding aid descriptions of collections having to do with people with disabilities, Americans with Disabilities, Americans with Disabilities Act, or Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.
Political campaigns	Finding aid descriptions of collections having to do with: Election Campaigns, Electioneering, Electoral politics, or Negative campaigns (example: President Clinton's 1996 election campaign, 2000 Gore campaign, Contested campaign results, Hillary Rodham Clinton's 1998 Senatorial Campaign).
Politicians	Finding aid descriptions of collections having to do with Statesmen like: Senators, Representatives, Governors, Mayors, or any other U.S. elected official.
Presidents--Staff	Finding aid descriptions of collections having to do with a member of White House Staff. This descriptive tag also applies to the President's Cabinet Secretaries (and Cabinet Secretary Deputies and Assistants).
Public welfare	Finding aid descriptions of collections having to do with Welfare (Public assistance) or Welfare reform; Benevolent institutions; Poor relief; Public assistance; Public charities; Public relief; Public welfare--Government policy; Public welfare reform; Relief (Aid); or Social welfare.
Religions	Finding aid descriptions of collections having to do anything related to religion. These topices include religious denominations, world religions, religious leaders, or spiritual advisors.
Scandals--Political aspects	Finding aid descriptions of collections having to do with a political controversy or scandal that affected the Clinton Administration (Whitewater, Filegate, Keneth Starr Investigations, etc.)
Speechwriters	Finding aid descriptions of collections having to do with Individuals that are part of the President's speechwriting team who write, edit, research and fact check every speech. The speechwriting team varies in size and scope, depending on the preferences of the president.
Sports	Finding aid descriptions of collections having to do with Sports, Athletes, Athletic events (Example: Olympic Games). This finding aid tag also describes collections concerning President Clinton's involvement in sporting events (example: playing golf, throwing out the first pitch, attending a basketball game, etc).
Technology	Finding aid descriptions of collections having to do with the field of Science and Technology, satellites, computers, information systems, telecommunications, etc.
Terrorism	Finding aid descriptions of collections having to do with foreign or domestic Terrorists; Acts of terrorism; Attacks, Terrorist; Global terrorism; International terrorism; Political terrorism; Terror attacks; Terrorist acts; Terrorist attacks; or World terrorism.
Voyages and travels	Finding aid descriptions of collections having to do with Presidential Trips and Travel. These finding aids could also be describing presidential vacations. (Examples: the Travel Office, Trip Books, Vacations to Martha's Vinyard, etc.)
War	Finding aid descriptions of collections having to do with armed conflict or war. (Example: Wars in Kosovo, Bosnia, etc.)
Deputies Committee Meeting	Finding aid descriptions of collections having to do with Deputies Committee Meetings
Principals Committee Meeting	Finding aid descriptions of collections having to do with Principals Committee Meetings
Gubernatorial Collection	Used only for systematically processed collections.
Federal Records	Used only for systematically processed collections.
