First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton served as the Chair of the President's Task Force on National Health Care Reform. The files contain reports, memoranda, correspondence, schedules, and news clippings. These materials discuss topics such as the proposed health care plan, the need for health care reform, benefits packages, Medicare, Medicaid, events in support of the Administration's plan, and other health care reform proposals. Furthermore, this material includes draft reports from the White House Health Care Interdepartmental Working Group, formed to advise the Health Care Task Force on the reform plan. Scope and Content Note The materials in FOIA 2006-0810-F (segment 2) are a selective body of documents responsive to the topic of the FOIA. Researchers should consult the archivist about related materials. FOIA request 2006-0810-F (segment 2) contains material on Health Care Reform from 1993 thru 1996 from the First Lady’s Office. The records include correspondence, memoranda, talking points, reports, charts, publications, research material, schedules, newspaper and magazine clippings, briefing books, press releases, background material and speeches maintained by individual offices and staff members. A great deal of material is found in Melanne Verveer’s files, Deputy Chief of Staff to the First Lady. Verveer’s files contain a selection of books, Children’s Health Issue binders, other Issue Binders, Publications, and Health Care files. Chief of Staff to the First Lady Maggie Williams files contain mostly correspondence. Her files also contain some background materials and memos. Alice Pushkar, Director of First Lady’s Correspondence Office files contain correspondence, and the Section by Section Analysis of the Health Security Act Binder. The Domestic Policy Council records were located in the files of Jennifer Klein, Senior Policy Analyst, Nicole Rabner, Special Assistant to the Deputy Chief of Staff to the First Lady, Karen Guss, and Neera Tanden’s files. Jennifer Klein’s materials consist of memos, reports, and published materials regarding health care reform issues. The First Lady’s Press Office contain responsive materials found in the files of Marsha Berry, Lisa Caputo, Karen Finney, Neel Lattimore, Lissa Muscatine, and Eric Woodard. Lisa Caputo was Press Secretary to the First Lady, Karen Finney and Neel Lattimore were Deputy Press Secretaries. The Press office files consist of magazine and press clippings, memoranda, talking points, health care reference binders, and reports. The speechwriting files are from Special Assistant to the President and Senior Speechwriter Laura Schiller and Presidential Speechwriter June Shih. These records contain copies of the various speeches that the First Lady gave relating to health care. These records also contain material on the UN World AIDS Day.
