(2006-1020-F) John Deutch - Director of National Intelligence

FOIA request 2006-1020-F consists of news articles and press briefings concerning the security revocation of John M. Deutch. It also includes memoranda regarding meetings on the investigations regarding Deutch’s mishandling of national security information. John M. Deutch was appointed by President Bill Clinton to be Director of Central Intelligence on May 10, 1995, and he held the position until his resignation December 14, 1996. On December 17, 1996, shortly after leaving the agency, classified information was discovered on Deutch's unclassified computers in his home and at his office. In January 1997, the Office of Personnel Security, Special Investigations Branch, was asked to conduct a security investigation of this matter. The Office of Inspector General opened a formal investigation in March 1998. On March 19, 1998, the Office of Inspector General referred the matter to Department of Justice. On April 14, 1999, Attorney General, Janet Reno, declined prosecution and suggested a review to determine Deutch's suitability for a security clearance, which was ultimately revoked. On President Clinton’s last day in office he pardoned John Deutch.
