Scope and Content Note The materials in FOIA 2007-1452-F are a systematic body of documents responsive to the topic of the FOIA. Researchers should consult the archivist about related materials. FOIA request 2007-1452-F contains records on an exchange of messages between President Clinton and Iranian President Khatami in August 1999. Since the U.S. government has no formal diplomatic relations with Iran, a third-party government served as an intermediary. FOIA request 2007-1452-F consists entirely of electronic records in the form of emails. It should be noted that because of the sensitivity of these messages, the majority of this FOIA request is closed in full. The NSC Cable, Email, and Records Management Systems contain an email of a news report about the exchange of messages between governments and the role of the intermediary.
