At the age of nineteen, Mr. Griffin became the youngest-ever member of a presidential staff. Griffin worked in the Press Office from 1993 to1994 before leaving to attend Georgetown University. This collection contains emails, memorandums, correspondence and notes related to Mr. Griffin’s work in the White House Press Office. It also includes numerous requests from the press corps and others for VIP tours of the White House as well as material coordinating the Press coverage of the President’s jogging trips. Chad Griffin, a native of Hope, Arkansas was a volunteer for the 1992 Clinton presidential campaign. Following the election, he dropped out of Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas and accepted a position from Dee Dee Myers with the Clinton Administration's Press Office. At the age of nineteen he became the youngest-ever member of a presidential staff. Griffin worked in the Press Office from 1993-1994 whereupon he left to attend Georgetown University. While at Georgetown he volunteered at the White House during his summers. The email in this collection to, from, or mentioning Chad Griffin exhibit Griffin's work in the Clinton White House. Chad Griffin assisted in clearing visitors and press through the White House's Worker and Visitor and Entry System (WAVES). He also assisted with scheduling, ticketing, and conducting White House tours. Griffin traveled with the Press Office on President Clinton's foreign and domestic trips. Griffin collected the staff family’s names for the 1993 White House Christmas Card. This collection of email also contain many pages to and from Griffin, meeting arrangements, press schedules and travel arrangements, and IT issues with White House computers and technology. After Griffin left the White House in 1994 the email in this collection concern his volunteer work during his summer breaks, his philanthropic work with Rob Reiner, and end-of-the-administration celebrations. The textual material in this collection consists of memorandums, correspondence and notes related to Mr. Griffin’s work in the White House Press Office and includes numerous requests from the press corps and others for VIP tours of the White House, a scheduling request for the First Lady to speak at Georgetown while Mr. Griffin was a student there and material coordinating the Press coverage of the President’s jogging trips. The White House Office of Records Management (WHORM) contains a variety of series created to organize and track documents and correspondence. The WHORM Subject File was compiled by the White House Office of Records Management and is a series of categories designated by a letter/number combination. In addition there are WHORM (CL), and WHORM Alpha Project series. White House Staff and Office Files were maintained at the folder level by staff members within their individual offices and document all levels of administrative activity. WHORM files are processed at the document level; whereas, Staff and Office files are processed at the folder level, that is, individual documents are not selected and removed from a folder for processing. While this method maintains folder integrity, it frequently results in the incidental processing of documents that are not wholly responsive to the subject area. The Automated Records Management System (ARMS) is a database that contains email records of the Executive Office of the President. This system maintained unclassified Presidential email from 6 subsets of email. The sub-sets are offices from the Executive Office of the President. They include: NPR (National Performance Review) OPD (Office of Policy Development) POTUS (President of the United States) WHO (White House Office) CEA (Council of Economic Advisers) Default (email sent from outside the other offices) ARMS email are organized by sub-set, topic, and there under chronologically by email creation date. Records in this collection come from only one of the six offices, WHO. The Tape Restoration Project (TRP) is a database consisting of restored emails from the Automated Records Management System from July 1994 through June of 2000. The TRP is a database that contains email records of the Executive Office of the President. This system maintained unclassified Presidential record from 6 sub-sets of email identical to the ARMS dataset of email. TRP email are organized by sub-set, topic, and there under chronologically by email creation date. Records in this collection come from only one of the six offices, WHO.
