Daniel Seals, the son of a former Chicago Bears football player, was raised in Illinois. After graduating college he spent a period teaching English in Japan. Following his return to the United States he studied International Economics and Japanese Studies in Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies. Seals received a Master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University in 1997 and was nominated for a Presidential Management Internship. During his internship Seals served as an Aide to the Assistant Secretary of Commerce and as an economic fellow for the United States Senate. After leaving his internship, Seals returned to school at the University of Chicago and began working in a number of economics and consulting jobs. In 2006, 2008, and 2010, Seals was unsuccessful at winning the 10th District U.S. congressional seat. Seals was named Assistant Director of the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity in May 2011.
