The Free Trade Area of the Americas was a proposed agreement to eliminate or reduce trade barriers among all countries of Central and South America. The proposal was first discussed at the Summit of the Americas in Miami, Florida in November of 1994, however the proposal failed to gain any significant support and the signing deadline of January 1, 2005 passed with no agreement. This collection consists of the Congressional testimony of a U.S. Department of Agriculture Undersecretary to a Senate subcommittee in May of 1995, the Congressional testimony of the U.S. Trade Representative to a House subcommittee in October of 1995, Correspondence between the President and congressional leadership and between the President and the Consul-General of Honduras regarding free trade and immigration policy.
