This collection consists of materials from trade organizations in support of a Free Trade Area of the Americas, Congressional correspondence, and the President’s Trip Book for the 1994 Summit of the Americas conference in Miami, FL. The Free Trade Area of the Americas was a proposed agreement to eliminate or reduce trade barriers among all countries of Central and South America. The proposal was first discussed at the Summit of the Americas in Miami, Florida in November of 1994. The proposal failed to gain any support and the signing deadline of January 1, 2005 passed with no agreement.
