FTAA began in December of 1994 at the Summit of the Americas in Miami, Florida where heads of states and governments from 34 countries agreed to work on the FTAA and complete negotiations by 2005. The FTAA was comprised of working groups and negotiating committees that worked on negotiations regarding agriculture, intellectual property rights, investment, government procurement, market access, services, competition policy, and dispute settlement, subsidies and anti-dumping and countervailing duties. The FTAA website, http://www.ftaa-alca.org/View_e.asp is a great resource of information on the FTAA.
