The records include correspondence as well as the schedule and guest list for a state dinner to which Glazer and his wife were invited. Scope and Content Note The materials in FOIA 2022-0620-F (Segment 1) are a selective body of documents responsive to the topic of the FOIA. Researchers should consult the archivist about related material. Guilford Glazer was a prominent American real estate developer and philanthropist. Following his Navy service during World War II, he grew the family business, Glazer Steel, into an international supplier of steel and a major fabricator of bridges, dams, industrial plants and steel buildings. Glazer then became involved in real estate development. He developed the first high-rise building in Knoxville, Tennessee, and was hired by the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission to develop a large shopping mall for Oak Ridge, Tennessee. In 1971, Glazer opened the Del Amo Fashion Center in Torrance, California, which was the largest shopping mall in the country at the time. At the height of his success, Glazer owned over 10 million square feet of real estate in fifteen states. Throughout his life, Glazer was involved with many social and political causes related to the State of Israel, frequently hosted international dignitaries at his home, and maintained many charitable and philanthropic endeavors. The business school of Ben-Gurion University of the Negev was renamed the Guilford Glazer Faculty of Business and Management, and Nanjing University in China and Pepperdine University in California both opened Diane and Guilford Glazer Institutes of Jewish Studies, following major donations. Records in this collection include correspondence between White House officials and Guilford Glazer, and the schedule and guest list for a state dinner at the White House for Prime Minister Barak of Israel, to which Glazer and his wife were invited.
