Researchers should consult the archivist about related material. The researcher submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request for records related to Harold James Nicholson. Electronic assets responsive to this request are almost exclusively press, summaries of television news reports, or transcripts of televised news reports and interviews such as Fox News’ Meet the Press or CNN’s Late Edition. Harold James Nicholson was arrested for espionage on November 18, 1996. Nicholson, a 16-year employee of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), was apprehended by the Federal Bureau of Investigation at the airport. He was, at that time, the highest-ranking CIA employee arrested for espionage. Nicholson pleaded guilty to spying for the Russians in 1997 and was sentenced to 23 years in prison. In 2009, Nicholson was again arrested and convicted of conspiracy to commit espionage by recruiting his son Nathaniel to spy for the Russians. The Tape Restoration Project (TRP) is a database that contains restored emails from the Automated Records Management System (ARMS) from July 1994 through June of 2000.This system maintained unclassified Presidential email.
