Scope and Content Note Jennifer Klein worked in the Office of Policy Development from February 1993 through January 1999. She served as a staff member on the Domestic Policy Council and was a domestic policy adviser for First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton. This collection includes correspondence regarding domestic policy topics, primarily women’s health, children’s health, child safety, child adoption, child development, childhood education, children’s literacy, and Medicare/Medicaid policy. The bulk of correspondence records are to or from staff members in the Office of the First Lady and Domestic Policy Council. Specific topics covered in this collection include the Children’s Health Initiative, Head Start, Reading Recovery Program, White House Conference on Early Learning and the Brain, and breast cancer legislation. This collection also includes records on District of Columbia Public Schools, specifically the privatization of Connie Lee to fund school improvements and renovations, the First Lady’s visit to Cleveland Elementary School in 1997, and partnerships between schools and government agencies or schools and law firms in the Washington, DC area.
