FOIA request 2006-0544-F contains records related to the surprise birthday party held in the State Dining Room of the White House, January 8, 1999. From January 1993 to 1995, John Podesta served as a White House staff secretary and Assistant to President Clinton. He served as Assistant to the President and Deputy Chief of Staff from 1997 to 1998, and then as Chief of Staff from October 1998 to January 2001. The Automated Records Management System [Email] files responsive to this request contain email correspondence concerning Podesta’s 50th birthday. The email may be best described as correspondence between White Staff concerning details and preparation for the birthday celebration in the state dining room. Many of the records produced for this FOIA were closed for personal privacy reasons.
