The records in this FOIA are memorandums sent from Joseph Stiglitz to President Clinton. Stiglitz was the Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisors (CEA) from 1995 to 1997. The memos cover a variety of topics including comments on the weekly economic reports, retail sales, education, second term initiatives, a National Governors Association welfare proposal, employment, the consumer price index, and housing. Prior to joining the Clinton Administration in 1993, Joseph Stiglitz taught at Princeton, Stanford, MIT and Yale. He was awarded the John Bates Clark Award from the American Economic Association in 1979. After leaving the Clinton Administration in 1997, Stiglitz went on to serve as the Chief Economist and Senior Vice-President of the World Bank from 1997-2000. He is currently a University Professor at Columbia University and a Co-Chair of Columbia University’s Committee on Global Thought. In 2001, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics, and he was a lead author of the 1995 Report of the Inter-government Panel on Climate Change, which shared the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize. In 2011, Stiglitz was named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time magazine.
