She assisted in writing weekly columns, speeches, talking points and handled video scripts for the First Lady. The files contain faxes, memorandums, speech drafts, reports, publications, correspondence, and news clippings relating to topics such as children’s healthcare, foster care, education, and women’s health issues. Scope and Content Note June Shih was a speechwriter for First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton from 1995 to 1997. She assisted the First Lady with weekly columns, wrote speeches, talking points, and handled video scripts. From 1997 - 2000 she was Special Assistant to President Clinton and a Presidential Speechwriter. She wrote speeches for President Clinton which included topics on race relations, education, health care, and the economy. She was also a member of the President's delegation to China in1998. Ms. Shih also participated in drafting two of the State of the Union Addresses. In 2000 she became chief speechwriter for Hillary Clinton’s senatorial campaign Ms. Shih graduated magna cum laude from Harvard and while at Harvard in the early 90’s she wrote for “The Harvard Crimson”. Her career after leaving the White House include law clerk, associate in a law firm, senior associate in a law firm and Senior Advisor at the U.S. Department of State. The June Shih collection includes faxes, memorandums, speeches, speech drafts, correspondence, news clippings, reports, publications, talking points and press releases covering topics such as children’s healthcare, child care, foster care, education, women’s health issues, AIDS, adoption, arts, Y2K, teen pregnancy, and the restoration of historical buildings and landmarks. Record Type Textual System of Arrangement The folders are arranged alphabetically by topic. Access Collection is open to all researchers. Access to Clinton Presidential Records is governed by the Presidential Records Act (PRA) (44 U.S.C. Chapter 22, as amended) and the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) (5 U.S.C. 552, as amended) and therefore records may be restricted in whole or part in accordance with legal exemptions.
