The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) is an intergovernmental alliance between the nations of Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, which seeks to build political, economic, social, and cultural cooperation in the region of the Arabian Peninsula. Formed in 1981, the GCC creates a common market, military alliance and influential political bloc for its member nations. Kenneth M. Pollack has served in several government roles, including Persian Gulf military analyst for the CIA, and with the National Security Council as Director for Near East and South Asian Affairs, and Director for Persian Gulf Affairs. He has published numerous books and articles regarding international relations in the Middle East. Most records related to this FOIA case are closed for national security reasons.
