Summary This collection consists of the files of Liz Bowyer, a staff assistant in the First Lady's Office and an assistant to the President's speechwriters. It contains copies of the First Lady’s daily schedules, daily background briefings for the First Lady, correspondence to the First Lady’s Chief of Staff Maggie Williams, and other correspondence regarding children’s issues, and health care reform. The files also include subject briefings and background files on economic issues, as well as computer disks used by the speechwriting office. Scope and Content Note During the 1992 Presidential Election, Liz Bowyer worked as a member of the quick-response team in the Little Rock headquarters War Room and during the transition was a member of the Presidential Transition Domestic Policy Staff researching and drafting policy proposals for the President-elect in the area of children and families. In February 1993, she was hired as an assistant to the President’s Speechwriters, where she conducted research on a range of issues in preparation for Presidential Speeches. She was also responsible for fact-checking speech drafts, and coordinating scheduling and logistics affecting the delivery of the President’s remarks. While working in the Presidential Speechwriters office, she also worked as a Staff Assistant in the First Lady’s Office until she left the White House in June 1995. In her role in the First Lady’s Office, her responsibilities included creating a daily file consisting of any press coverage of public appearances of the First Lady, talking points for the First Lady’s scheduled activities for the day, lists of contact people for daily events, and any relevant news clippings on the subjects of Health Care, Welfare Reform, Education, Children and Families, Crime and Drugs, Housing, Immigration, Labor and Reinventing Government. After leaving the White House, Bowyer assisted Hillary Clinton with her book Living History (New York: Simon & Schuster, 2003), and went on to work for ABC television in New York City and is still in the communications and public relations fields.
