Scope and Content Note Michael Schmidt was a Senior Policy Analyst on the White House Domestic Policy Council from 1993 to 1995. In this capacity, he participated in the creation and implementation of a number of initiatives, including Goals 2000, School to Work, and the Technology Learning Challenge program. Prior to his service in the White House, Schmidt worked on federal training and development policy for the Office of Personnel Management and as a staff member for the Secretary of Labor’s Commission on Achieving Necessary Skills (SCANS). He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan and a Masters of Public Management from the University of Maryland’s School of Public Affairs. After leaving the White House, Schmidt joined the Ford Motor Company in 1996 as the Director of Education and Community Development, overseeing the Henry Ford Academy and the Ford Partnership for Advanced Studies.
