331 folders, approximately 35,772 pages

This collection consists of records from Paul Weinstein, Special Assistant to the President and Chief of Staff of the White House Domestic Policy Council from 1993-1999. It highlights Weinstein’s work as the Domestic Policy Council’s liaison to the National Performance Review, whose goal was to reduce the size of the government to create a government that "works better and costs less." This collection contains draft legislation, Q&A’s, talking points, fact sheets, press releases, faxes, memoranda, news articles, newspaper clippings, SAPs (Statement of Administration Policy), reports, publications, books, handwritten notes, emails, weekly reports, and correspondence from Congress, federal agencies, and NGOs in the housing and financial industries.

Paul Weinstein served as Special Assistant to the President and Chief of Staff of the White House Domestic Policy Council from 1993-1999. During his time at the White House, Weinstein worked closely with Paul Diamond of the National Economic Council on issues relating to the housing market, campaign finance reform, Empowerment Zones, community development initiatives, banking regulations, and Clinton administration economic policies. This collection also highlights Weinstein’s work as the Domestic Policy Council’s liaison to the National Performance Review, whose goal was to reduce the size of the government to create a government that "works better and costs less." Weinstein worked closely with advisors to the Vice President to recommend government cuts and restructuring. Before his work in the Clinton administration, Weinstein served as a senior legislative aide to former Representative C. Thomas McMillen and Senator Albert Gore Jr. After his time in the Domestic Policy Council, Weinstein became a senior adviser for policy planning for Vice President Gore. He then went on to be a senior adviser to the Simpson-Bowles Commission, which President Obama created to address the nation’s mid- and long-term fiscal challenges. Weinstein received his BSFS in International 2024-0507-S 2 Relations from Georgetown University in 1985, and in 1987, he completed his Masters in International Economics at Columbia University. The records include draft legislation, Q&A’s, talking points, fact sheets, press releases, faxes, memoranda, news articles, newspaper clippings, SAPs (Statement of Administration Policy), reports, publications, books, handwritten notes, emails, weekly reports, and correspondence from Congress, federal agencies, and NGOs in the housing and financial industries.
