It contains a well-publicized letter from William Kristol to President Clinton on January 26, 1998 urging that the United States follow an official policy of regime change in Iraq. The collection also includes media reaction to this letter. Scope and Content Note The materials in FOIA 2015-0653-F are a selective body of documents responsive to the topice of the FOIA. Researchers should consult the archivist about related materials. The records in FOIA 2015-0653-F are related to materials produced by the Project for the New American Century (PNAC). William Kristol and Robert Kagan founded the conservative foreign policy institute in Washington, D.C. in 1997. On January 26, 1998, PNAC sent a fax to President Clinton urging that the official U.S. policy in Iraq be the removal of Sadaam Hussein from power. In September 2000, PNAC released a report, Rebuilding America’s Defenses: Strategy, Forces, and Resources for a New Century, which criticized defense spending levels and advocated strengthening the military. The full report is available on the Internet. PNAC dissolved in 2006. Materials responsive to this FOIA request include the Jasnuary 26, 1998 fax to the President and two emails between National Security Council staffers on January 27, 1998. Both emails are summaries of newspaper clippings, including a Washington Times editorial regarding the letter from PNAC.
