This collection contains Richard Schifter’s files concerning Poland. Mr. Schifter was an Austrian-American attorney who had served in various roles in the State Department under President Reagan and the first President Bush. President Clinton appointed Ambassador Schifter to the National Security Council, where he served in the Counselor’s Office until 1997. Ambassador Schifter’s records contain one file on Poland. This file includes memorandums, correspondence, reports, papers, and press material regarding United States and international investment in Poland. These materials especially concern United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Department of Treasury aid in social structure restructuring and a housing initiative.
