The collection contains records related to Robert “Bob” Novick and China, specifically regarding the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) and the World Trade Organization (WTO), which replaced GATT in 1995. Robert Novick was hired as Counselor to the United States Trade Representative in 1997. Novick rose to the position of General Counsel of the USTR and served until 2001. He played a considerable role in the negotiations that took place during the Clinton Administration leading up to China joining the WTO in December 2001. He then took a position at the law firm of WilmerHale where he continues, as of July 2022, advising on international business and Asian affairs.
