The responsive records cover a wide variety of domestic policy topics Klain was involved with while serving as Chief of Staff to Vice President Al Gore. Major subjects covered in these emails include the environment, 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympics, Enterprise Communities, Empowerment Zones, crime and policing, the Internet, and anti-tobacco initiatives. Ron Klain worked on the Clinton-Gore 1992 campaign and was later an Associate Counsel to the President focusing on judicial nominations. He was named Chief of Staff to Attorney General Janet Reno in 1994, and in 1995 Klain became Chief of Staff to Vice President Al Gore, serving from 1995-1999. He joined the law firm of O'Melveny & Myers from 1999-2005, and later served as Chief of Staff to Vice President Joe Biden from 2009-2011. In January 2021, Klain began serving as White House Chief of Staff, a position he held until February 2023. The Tape Restoration Project (TRP) is a database consisting of restored emails from the Automated Records Management System (ARMS) from July 1994 through June of 2000. The TRP is a database that contains email records of the Executive Office of the President. This system maintained unclassified Presidential email. Access Collection is open to all researchers.
