Scope and Content Note The materials in FOIA 2017-1175-F are a selective body of documents responsive to the topic of the FOIA. Researchers should consult the archivist about related material. Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request 2017-1175-F was for the SF-86 forms for Sidney Blumenthal, Douglas Sosnik, and George Stephanopoulos found in the Clinton presidential records. Responsive records were pulled from the Security Office personnel files. These files were compiled for background and security investigations to determine if the personnel in question could be allowed access to national security information or to be assigned a White House pass. As such these records include a significant amount of personally identifiable information (PII) and are largely withheld or redacted. Records to be opened include administrative paperwork related to completion of background investigations and other types of vetting materials. Sidney Blumenthal was a Senior Advisor to President Clinton in the Office of Communications. He began working in the White House is August of 1997 and continued through the end of the 2017-1175-F http://www.clintonlibrary.gov 2 Administration. Prior to working in the White House, Blumenthal was a journalist for New Yorker magazine. Blumenthal served through the end of the Clinton Administration. Since 2001, Blumenthal has written books and advised on movie productions. Douglas Sosnik worked for political campaigns and as a Senate staffer before coming to the Clinton Administration. He served as Assistant to the President and Director of Political Affairs in the Office of Political Affairs from 1993 to 1995. He was later named Counselor to the President in the Chief of Staff Office and served in that position from February 1995 to March 2000. Following his time in the White House, Sosnik worked for the National Basketball Association. George Stephanopoulos was Senior Advisor to the President and Executive Assistant to the Chief of Staff for Policy. Stephanopoulos, like Sosnik, worked in electoral campaigns and as a Senate staffer before coming to the Clinton campaign in 1991. Stephanopoulos held his position from 1993 to 1996. After leaving the White House he transitioned to journalism, appearing often as the political analyst for the ABC television network. As of 2017, he is chief news anchor for ABC news. Staff and Office files were maintained at the folder level by staff members within their individual offices and document all levels of administration activity.
