FOIA 2025-0932-F is a request for all photographs relating to statements delivered by President William
Jefferson Clinton regarding bombings of Afghanistan and Sudan. Following bombing attacks on August
7, 1998 at United States embassy locations in Kenya and Tanzania, President Clinton ordered
simultaneous strikes of targets located in Afghanistan and Sudan as retaliatory measures.

simultaneous strikes of targets located in Afghanistan & Sudan as retaliatory measures.

Photographs processed in this case detail meetings regarding the attacks, the President working on his statements, and
the President delivering remarks to the press about the bombings in Edgartown Elementary School in
Martha’s Vineyard, Maryland. During meetings the President speaks on the telephone to Egyptian
President Hosni Mubarak [محمد حسني السيد مبارك].

Individuals photographed in the events include President William Jefferson Clinton, Secretary of Defense William Cohen, Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, Samuel “Sandy” Berger, General Henry “Hugh” Shelton, Thomas Pickering, General Donald Kerrick, Jim Steinberg, Leon Fuerth, ErskineBowles, John Podesta, Rahm Emanuel, Richard Clark, George Tenet, Ed Rice, Michael McCurry, Joe Lockhart, Bruce Lindsey, Anne Edwards, Doug Sosnik, and Dana Pittard.

Records that were responsive to this FOIA request were found in one collection area and one series— Clinton Presidential Records: Photographs of the White House Photograph Office and the series therein—Photographs Relating to the Clinton Administration. Processing is done at the Folder/Contact sheet level. While this method maintains folder/contact sheet integrity, it frequently results in the processing of photographs that are not wholly responsive to the subject area.
