The segment contains photographs pertaining to arrivals, departures, meetings, ceremonies, press briefings, interviews, photo-ops, etc., involving President William Jefferson Clinton, First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton, White House Staff, and others for the time period processed. Of particular focus are photographs relating to the Christmas and New Years’ holidays at the White House.

FOIA 2016-0984-F (Segment 122) is a request for all Clinton Administration White House photographs taken from January 1, 1994 through December 31, 1994. The photographs processed in this segment were created on December 22, 1994 through December 24, 1994, and December 26, 1994 through December 31, 1994. The segment contains photographs pertaining to arrivals, departures, meetings, ceremonies, press briefings, interviews, photo-ops, etc., involving President William Jefferson Clinton, First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton, White House Staff, and others for the time period processed. Of particular focus are photographs relating to the Christmas and New Years’ holidays at the White House. Photographs from December 22, 1994 are as follows: President William Jefferson Clinton & Vice President Albert Gore, Jr., meet in the Oval Office of the White House with Secretary of Energy Hazel O’Leary, Secretary of Transportation Federico Pena, Alice Rivlin, Leon Panetta, and Harold Ickes, among others Dee Dee Myers jokes with George Stephanopoulos and Mark Gearan in Myers’ office in the West Wing of the White House. Myers speaks with Betty Currie and poses for a photograph in the Oval Office with President William Jefferson Clinton. Photographs from December 23, 1994 are as follows: President William Jefferson Clinton jogs along the Potomac River in Washington, DC. President William Jefferson Clinton speaks on the telephone in the Oval Office of the White House with Prime Minister Jean Chretien of Canada. Present is Colonel Jim Reed and Samuel “Sandy” Berger. Later the President speaks on the telephone with President Francois Mitterrand of France. President William Jefferson Clinton speaks with Chris Jennings and George Stephanopoulos in the Oval Office of the White House. The President participates in a meeting with Representative William Richardson, General John Shalikashivili, Secretary of Defense William Perry, and Samuel “Sandy” Berger, among others. The meeting is in regard to the current situation in North Korea, where Warrant Officer Bobby Hall was held captive following his helicopter being shot down in the demilitarized zone. President William Jefferson Clinton, First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton, and Chelsea Clinton decorate a Christmas tree in the Yellow Oval Room of the White House. President William Jefferson Clinton & Chelsea Clinton go Christmas shopping in Georgetown Park in Washington, DC. The President greets workers at stores and shoppers. Later the President and Chelsea are photographed in the Oval Office with the presents they purchased. President William Jefferson Clinton & Vice President Albert Gore, Jr., greet Dan Glickman in the Oval Office of the White House. Present are Samuel “Sandy” Berger, Harold Ickes, and George Stephanopoulos. The group proceeds to the Rose Garden where the President announces Glickman as Secretary of Agriculture, replacing Mike Espy. President William Jefferson Clinton speaks on the telephone to President Kim Young-Sam (김영삼) of South Korea in the Treaty Room office of the White House regarding the release of Warrant Officer Bobby Hall who was held captive in North Korea following his helicopter being shot down. The President speaks with Stanley Roth and Anthony Lake. The President later speaks directly to Warrant Officer Hall on the telephone. Stephen Goodin is present. The President proceeds to a press briefing in the Press Briefing Room to deliver remarks regarding the release of Warrant Officer Hall. Present are Lake, Roth, and Ginny Terzano. First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton greets a group in the Diplomatic Reception Room of the White House. Photographs from December 29, 1994 are as follows: President William Jefferson Clinton participates in an interview in the Oval Office of the White House with Bob Cohn and William Turkue of Newsweek Magazine. Prior to the interview the President speaks with Harold Ickes and Ginny Terzano. President William Jefferson Clinton meets with District of Columbia Mayor-elect Marion Barry in the Oval Office of the White House. Present are Harold Ickes and Alexis Herman. Mayor-elect Barry speaks with Herman and Dan Wexler in the Outer Oval Office. Later the President speaks with Anthony Lake and Stanley Roth, and greets Judy Wood, Kerena Wood, and Alesandra Wood in the Outer Oval Office. President William Jefferson Clinton participates in an interview with radio reporters in the Roosevelt Room of the White House. President William Jefferson Clinton participates in an interview with various news wire service reporters regarding the President’s year’s end remarks in the Oval Office of the White House. Present on the interviews are Helen Thomas, Terry Hunt, Larry McQuillan, and Sophie Huet. The President speaks with staff prior to the interviews including Harold Ickes and Thomas Ross, among others. Later the President participates in an interview with Judy Keene. Miscellaneous photographs include Anthony Lake greeting Helen Paulke in the West Wing for Paulke’s retirement, and visitors lining up outside of the White House and on the Ellipse for a tour of Christmas décor. Photographs from December 30, 1994 are as follows: President William Jefferson Clinton & First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton greet George McGovern in the Diplomatic Reception Room of the White House. The President & First Lady proceed towards Marine One stationed on the South Lawn landing zone of the White House and depart the White House en route Camp David. Photographs from December 31, 1994 are as follows: President William Jefferson Clinton & First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton greet guests on the tarmac at Beauford Marine Corps Air Station in South Carolina. The President & First Lady are en route Hilton Head. The President, First Lady, and Chelsea Clinton celebrate New Year’s Eve. The President & Phil Lader address guests.

Records that were responsive to this FOIA request were found in one collection area and one series— Clinton Presidential Records: Photographs of the White House Photograph Office and the series therein—Photographs Relating to the Clinton Administration. Processing is done at the Folder/Contact sheet level. While this method maintains folder/contact sheet integrity, it frequently results in the processing of photographs that are not wholly responsive to the subject area.
