Expand All Collapse All Extent 1 folder, approximately 97,116 pages, [2 electronic files] Summary This collection is a list of visitor entries into the White House from 1999-2001. To gain access to the White House visitors submitted their personal information and appointment date and location to software used by the White House staff, the Worker and Visitor Entry System (WAVES). Information available via WAVES includes visitor name; appointment time, date, and location; times of arrival and departure, and names of the White House staffer who entered the appointment into the WAVES database. The White House also collected date of birth and social security information of visitors; which is not provided in this collection. There are over 1,000,000 White House appointments or entries for the years 1999-2001. Scope and Content Note The materials in FOIA 2007-0779-F are a selective body of documents responsive to the topic of the FOIA. Researchers should consult the archivist about related materials. This collection consists of records related to White House entry for the last 2 years of the Clinton Administration (1999-2001). This collection consists entirely of records that were copied and arranged from the White House Worker and Visitor Entry System (WAVES). The United States Secret Service maintained the WAVES database to monitor entry and access to White House offices. Responsive records were isolated and selected from the WAVES database and then copied to Microsoft EXCEL worksheets. Due to the nature of the WAVES source files, responsive records have been arranged into two files. The first file consists of a Microsoft EXCEL worksheet containing appointment, meeting and entry records from January 1, 1999 through December 31, 2000. Please note that some of the responsive records within this file contain evidence of the y2k problem, as only the first two digits of 1999 were captured in the data set. Therefore, appointment dates including those with the year date 19 were also included as responsive. The second file consists of a Microsoft EXCEL worksheet with two tabs. The first worksheet tab is labeled Appointment and Meeting Dates. This tab contains appointment, meeting and entry records from January 1, 2001 through January 20, 2001. This worsheet tab is subdivided by AL, PE, VA and WO access type. The second worksheet tab is labeled WAVES Badge Dates. This tab contains appointment, meeting and entry records from as early as February 2, 1999 through January 20, 2001. Record Type Textual System of Arrangement Records that are responsive to this FOIA request were found in thise collection area – Clinton Presidential Records: Worker and Visitor Entry System (WAVES). The United States Secret Service maintained databases to monitor entry and access to White House offices. The WAVES database was used to manage appointments for entry to White House offices. Visitors may have been granted issued temporary id badges to monitor their movement around White House offices. Records produced for this FOIA may contain data entry and formatting errors. Data entry errors occurred as a result of human error (ex. spelling, grammar, etc.) when entering data into the WAVES system. Formatting errors may have occurred when records were copied from the WAVES system to the EXCEL spreadsheet. The EXCEL spreadsheet containing responsive records are organized by the data entry field from which the information was copied.
