Topics covered included the public’s perception of the guilt or innocence of O.J. Simpson and the approval rating for President and Mrs. Clinton in the wake of the Whitewater scandal. The pollster, Stan Greenberg was responsible for creating polls of wide variety and was trusted by Clinton to gauge public opinion at key points in an election campaign. The records in this collection are composed of reports, memoranda, publications, lists, talking points, questionnaires, and polls. Freedom of Information Act Collection Textual (2007-1468-F) Public Opinion Polling This collection consists of records related to public opinion polling and public opinion mail and email concerning issues of health care; the Brady Bill; gun control; welfare; the Welfare to Work social program; gay marriage; Bosnia; and Haiti. This collection consists of email, memoranda, correspondence, and tally sheets. These records include statistical information compiled by the White House, particularly during the first years of the Clinton Administration, 1993-1995, on how much mail and email it was receiving, and on what topics, and the trendline of public opinion on those topics. It primarily includes tracking reports for incoming Congressional correspondence Freedom of Information Act Collection Textual (2007-1470-F) James Lynwood Younger Jr. - United States Marshall This collection consists of email and records relating to the appointment of James Lynwood Younger Jr. for the position of United States Marshall for the Eastern District of Virginia. Lynwood was appointed to the position in October 2000. Freedom of Information Act Collection Textual (2007-1550-F) Global AIDS Crisis This collection consists of material regarding the Clinton Administration’s handling of the global AIDS crisis. It contains correspondence, memoranda, talking points, drafts, invitations, background material, agendas and minutes, executive orders, speeches, informational packets, travel documents, emails, cables, reports, and press materials regarding a variety of issues related to the fight against HIV/AIDS. The topics addressed include the Haitian detention crisis, federal budget, foreign aid, collaboration with other governments, international agencies (such as WHO and the UN) and NGOs, international conferences, a Presidential Mission to Africa, pharmaceutical companies, tuberculosis, individual countries, and some crossover domestic issues, such as dealing with HIV positive persons in the US military and the inclusion of the virus as an excludable illness under the Immigration and Naturalization Act. The records of the National AIDS Policy Office make up the bulk of the collection. Freedom of Information Act Collection Textual (2007-1551-F) Usama bin Ladin This collection deals wholly with issues of foreign policy and national security. Only one document from this collection is open: a declassified Department of State cable summarizing Assistant Secretary of State Rick Inderfurth’s December 8, 1996 meeting with the Taliban. The remaining documents are closed for national security reasons. Freedom of Information Act Collection Textual (2007-1596-F) Embassy Bombings and Air Strikes against Afghanistan and Sudan This collection consists of materials related to the suicide bombings of the United States Embassies in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania and Nairobi, Kenya on August 7, 1998 and the subsequent August 20, 1998 Operation Infinite Reach airstrikes against suspected al-Qa’ida facilities in Afghanistan and Sudan. The records include reports, memoranda, correspondence, and press materials regarding the bombings, Operation Infinite Reach, and the emergency supplemental funding that Congress passed to cover medical expenses, victim compensation, and additional embassy security measures.
