Finding Aids

Finding aids describe archival collections to help users navigate their contents and identify material relevant to their research. Finding aids provide a summary of a collection, the system of arrangement of the responsive material, a container list of responsive files, and a link to the related digitized records (if available).

Researchers may use the "Search Box" below to search by keyword or collection number (ex. 2016-0738-F). Researchers may narrow their search results by filtering by finding aid type, record type, or tag. Researchers may also select for "Digitized Content" to view only collections that have been digitized.

Finding Aid Types

Finding aid types include Freedom of Information Act Collections, Systematically Processed Collections, and Mandatory Declassification Review Collections.

Freedom of Information Act Collections provide a summary of a collection requested under the Freedom of Information Act, biographic information concerning the collection, the system of arrangement of the responsive material, a container list of responsive files, and a link to the related digitized records (if available).

Systematically Processed Collections provide a summary of a collection processed systematically, biographic information concerning the collection, the system of arrangement of the responsive material, a container list of files, and a link to the related digitized records (if available).

Mandatory Declassification Review Collections provide a summary of a collection released via a Mandatory Declassification Review, and an Adobe Acrobat file (.pdf) of the declassified records.

Collection Description Tags

A Tag is a descriptive term attached to a finding aid to establish relationships between collection descriptions. Multiple tags can be used to describe collections.

AIDS (Disease)Finding aid descriptions of collections having to do with the Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) and/or the treatment of HIV infections. Finding aids also describe policy concerning individuals, groups, or countries seeking treatment or subsidies for AIDs and HIV.

Systematically Processed Collection Textual
This collection consists of the files of Jennifer Klein. From 1993 through 1999, Jennifer Klein served as a health policy assistant to the First Lady while simultaneously working in the Domestic Policy Council as a senior policy analyst. She later served as the Special Assistant to the President for Domestic Policy. The collection contains documents on topics relating to abortion, adoption, breast cancer, children and child care, health care reform, Medicaid and Medicare, re-organizing government and regulatory reform, tobacco, and women's issues. The records include articles, correspondence, drafts, information packets, legislation, memos, reports, speeches, and talking points.

It contains audio cassette tapes containing recordings of President Clinton conversing with speechwriting advisers and practicing his upcoming 1998 State of the Union address. This collection also consists of emailed correspondence concerning taped speech preparation meetings with the President of the United States and transcriptions of those meetings. Email correspondence includes transcriptions of speech preparation for 1997 Inaugural Speech, 1997, State of the Union (SOTU), and an unidentified 1998 speech, 1999 SOTU, and 2000 SOTU.

This collection consists of the files of Liz Bowyer, a staff assistant in the First Lady's Office and an assistant to the President's speechwriters. It contains copies of the First Lady’s daily schedules, daily background briefings for the First Lady, correspondence to the First Lady’s Chief of Staff Maggie Williams, and other correspondence regarding children’s issues, and health care reform. The files also include subject briefings and background files on economic issues, as well as computer disks used by the speechwriting office.
