Much of the collection relates to NATO’s Open Door policy and the invitation and process of accession for Poland, Hungary, and Czech Republic. Freedom of Information Act Collection Textual (2018-1191-F) Daniel Fried and NATO This collection contains Daniel Fried’s files related to NATO enlargement. Ambassador Fried served in the National Security Council’s Central and Eastern European Affairs Directorate from 1993 to 1997. His work focused primarily on the Central European nations of Czechia, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, and Poland. The collection consists of correspondence, reports, and memorandums concerning early discussions on NATO enlargement, including mechanisms for expansion and Russian opposition. The collection also includes a number of notebooks containing Ambassador Fried’s handwritten daily work notes and his notes from Presidential and Cabinet-level meetings that he attended as the official notetaker. The collection consists of correspondence, press materials, cables, and research materials. The records concern legislation regarding victim’s compensation, the court martial of the pilots, and the impact of the incident on the U.S.-Italian diplomatic relationship. The electronic records responsive to this request came from the Automated Records Management System (ARMS) and the Tape Restoration Project (TRP). Records to be opened include press, USIA media reports of international news coverage, emails between White House staffers, and the initial incident report sent by the United States military. Freedom of Information Act Collection Textual (2019-0054-F) Strobe Talbott & Kosovo This collection consists of records related to Deputy Secretary of State Strobe Talbott and the war in Kosovo. Deputy Secretary Talbott was one of the Clinton Administration’s main negotiators for policy matters related to Russia, particularly their differences over the best way to respond to the worsening situation in Kosovo in 1998 and 1999. The records in this collection include emails and National Security Council cables that reference the Deputy Secretary and his involvement in Kosovo matters. The materials contain press transcripts, news clippings, official statements, policy discussions, and planning materials for meetings. It contains a photocopy of a Presidential inscription to Adelson on a copy of the book Between Hope and History, a letter to the Jerusalem College of Technology on the occasion of honoring Adelson, and email correspondence concerning Mr. Adelson. Freedom of Information Act Collection Textual (2019-0130-F) Assassination of Chris Hani - leader of the South African Communist Party This collection consists of records related to the April 1993 assassination of Chris Hani. It contains press briefings, talking points, and condolence letters to Mr. Hani’s widow from various governments and press guidance. Freedom of Information Act Collection Photographs (2019-0140-F) White House Photos - Photographs of meetings regarding Bosnia in July and November of 1995 This collection consist of photographs of President Clinton participating in meetings and a telephone call pertaining to Bosnia Foreign Policy. The dates of meetings at the White House were July 13, 1995, July 17, 1995 and November 22, 1995. Participants at these meetings include: Vice President Gore, Tony Lake, Sandy Berger, Secretary Warren Christopher, Ambassador Madeleine Albright, General John Shalikashvili, Richard Holbrooke, John Deutch and others. Other events on the same photograph contact sheets that pertain to the Bosnia policy meetings include: President Clinton meeting with Delegation from China and former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger in the Oval Office on July 13, 1995; President Clinton and Hillary Rodham Clinton greeting former President George H.W. Freedom of Information Act Collection Textual (2019-0143-F) Antonio Lacayo, Arnoldo Aleman, and Enrique Bolanos This collection consists of records related to Antonio Lacayo, Minister of the Presidency in the Cabinet of President Violeta Chamorro of Nicaragua during the early 1990s, Arnoldo Aleman, President of Nicaragua from 1997-2002, and Enrique Bolanos, President of Nicaragua from 2002-2007.
